Ascension Parish has roughly four distinct climate windows for exterior cleaning, and each one is right for different surfaces. Following this calendar keeps your home consistently clean and saves money by timing each service when results last longest.
Spring (March-May): Reset After Winter
Winter ends with pollen layers on every horizontal surface, plus accumulated dirt and salt residue from the few times it got cold enough to need it. Spring is the time to reset.
What to clean now:
- Driveways and walkways — pollen and dirt have stained the concrete; a spring clean prevents algae from taking hold during the summer growth window
- Fences (wood and vinyl) — same logic; pre-season pollen and biological growth removal
- Outdoor entertaining areas (patios, decks) — get them ready before the heat sets in and you actually want to use them
- Pool decks — for the same reason; you don't want to clean these in July when the pool is in use
Summer (June-August): House Wash Season
High humidity and heat are when algae, mildew, and mold colonize siding fastest. By July, the dark streaks and patches on the shaded sides of your house are visible from the street.
What to clean now:
- House washing (soft wash) — this is the prime window; the chemistry works fastest in warm weather and results last through the fall
- Mobile home and manufactured exterior — same soft wash, same timing
- Outdoor furniture and screens — if you're doing house wash, add these for minimal extra cost
Why summer for siding
Cleaning siding in mid-winter doesn't work well — algae and mildew are dormant, so the chemistry has less effect, and the results don't "show" the way they do in active growth season. Summer cleans are visibly more dramatic and last longer.
Fall (September-November): Roof + Gutters Before Winter Rains
Fall is the most important window for roof and gutter work in Louisiana. The rainy season is coming, hurricane debris needs clearing, and you want the roof bacteria-free before months of consistent moisture lock it in.
What to clean now:
- Roof soft wash — this is the optimal window; cleaning in fall means the roof stays clean through winter and into next summer
- Gutters — clear leaves and debris before winter rains; flush downspouts; check for blockages
- Outdoor lighting and trim — black streaks running down fascia from gutter overflow need treatment before they set
Winter (December-February): Commercial + Prep Work
Cold weather slows residential cleaning chemistry, and we get fewer good weather windows. Winter is when we do commercial work (which has different cycles) and prep for spring.
What to clean now:
- Commercial properties — storefronts, dumpster pads, parking surfaces; these have different cleaning cycles than residential
- Pre-sale property prep — if you're listing in spring, schedule the full exterior wash in late February for showings
- Trash can sanitizing — winter is actually ideal for hot-water trash can cleaning because the smell isn't competing with summer heat
The "Every Surface, Every Year" Plan
For a standard Ascension Parish home, the most cost-effective rhythm is:
- Annually: driveway, house wash, gutters
- Every 2 years: roof soft wash, fence, deck
- Every 3-4 years: driveway + sealer combo for longer-lasting results
Bundling 2-3 services at a single visit typically saves 10-15% over scheduling them separately. We'll quote whatever combination makes sense for your property.
